We all have people in our lives that we care about – family, friends, pets … and the list could continue. Valentine’s Day is just one day that allows us to focus specifically on how much we love them. There are so many different ways to tell people you love them. Did you know, about 190 million cards are given out as gifts on this day. I mean it’s a great way to tell people that you love them – send them (or give them) a card, it’s even better when its home made in my opinion!
My favourite thing to do is to make a special lunch for my husband to take to work on Valentines day. I break out my heart shaped cookie cutters and cut his sandwich, fruits (melons or cucumbers work best) and wait for that text that says “what were you thinking?” 😀 Of course my response is always “I love you!” When Valentine’s day is on a weekend I love making us heart shaped pancakes or toast and eggs with the egg cooked inside a heart shaped cut out in the bread. This year, however, I am thinking of doing things a little different.
I am going to make my own pizza in the shape of a heart for dinner this weekend. Yes, I know it’s not yet Valentine’s Day but we both have a very busy week ahead. Besides, who says it has to be ON Valentine’s Day? Below, check out how I make my crust from scratch, grab your favourite pizza toppings when you go grocery shopping this weekend, and have some fun! You can make your own crust like I do or grab some frozen dough and shape it once it dethaws (not going to lie, this is sometimes a life saver).
This weekend, and into the week, have an amazing time celebrating yoour love for those who truly mean the world to you!
Pizza Dough
- 3 ½ c. all purpose flour
- ½ tsp. yeast
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 ½ c. warm water
The Dough:Combine all the ingredients for the dough in a large bowl and stir to combine. Cover with plastic wrap and set on the counter overnight to rise. In the morning, transfer to the fridge until ready to use. May be made 2 – 3 days in advance and kept in the fridge.
Assembling the Pizza: Remove from the fridge and divide the dough into 6 equal portions. Preheat oven to the highest temperature possible. If using a pizza stone or cast iron pan, preheat as well – I just use my circular baking sheet. With your fingertips, pat out the dough into rounds. Bake the pizzas in the bottom third of the oven until the crust is golden brown. Serve immediately.
